Focus on learning

What do we stand for?

We conduct research and teaching on special needs education and inclusion in schools. We focus primarily on the micro level of teaching, i.e. the "learning" and "teaching" of individuals.

Learning

We conduct empirical studies on individual learning processes of pupils in the classroom (especially with regard to language and written language) in order to better understand learning impairments and barriers than before. This enables us to generate insights into how pupils can profitably develop and utilise their learning potential and which barriers teachers could address pedagogically.

Teaching

We research teaching-relevant diagnostic and teaching methods in order to evaluate their feasibility (implementation) and effectiveness under practical conditions. In this way, we contribute to a stronger evidence base for diagnostics and teaching. Our focus is on inclusive methods that teachers can use to closely link diagnostics and support in order to promote learning processes and break down barriers.

Our working methods

We work on learning and teaching in schools across all specialisms (particularly with regard to learning, language and emotional-social development) and in an interdisciplinary manner (special education, educational science, psychology and psycholinguistics). We are in favour of strong empirical special needs education as a scientific discipline as well as a cooperative and transparent research culture.
