Project description Soko M
Social-emotional skills are a central building block for democratic coexistence and social interaction. They make it possible to experience community and belonging and to treat oneself, others and the environment with respect.
In the school context, social-emotional skills are also considered an essential prerequisite for successful educational and participation opportunities, as they significantly support living and learning together in heterogeneous learning groups.
Together with the collaborative partners from the universities of Paderborn and Vechta, a teaching unit is therefore to be developed to promote social-emotional skills for children in the third and fourth grades. The aim is to support the children in attentively recognising the perspectives, feelings and individual requirements of themselves and their classmates and to take these into account when learning together. In this way, the children should learn to perceive diversity as an enrichment and to develop an appreciative and enriching interaction in the classroom despite their different backgrounds. Initial methods and techniques of cooperative learning are also taught and social skills are thus consolidated in a practical way.
The effects of the teaching unit on social-emotional learning are recorded as part of a pre-post design using standardised questionnaires. Subsequently, it will be examined whether and to what extent the social-emotional skills acquired by the children have a learning effect on cooperative learning processes in geometry lessons and on the acquisition of subject-specific skills in mathematics in general.
